Hiking
Fri 11th June
After the boring motorway bit and as usual getting lost in Paris we turn
off the motorway at Clermont Ferrand and drive through the volcanoes and
stay in the car park at the bottom of the Py De Dome – the biggest
volcano in the area :)
Sat 12th June
Top nights sleep in the car park at the Col De Ceyssat the starting point
for the hike to the top of the 1456m peak !!! So after breakfast and in
bright sunshine we make the ascent in about an hour with breathtaking views
all the way !!! We are passed on route by mountain bikers and runners going
up – somewhat fitter than us !!!! Walk around the top and all you can see
are volcanoes in every direction – stunning !!!
We also see several paragliders preparing for take off – no mean feat as
they had to carry their deep canopies up :(
The only down side was the restaurant at the top was shut as it seems is
France generally !!!
It was very busy on the way down with people walking up but sadly the
weather by now had turned cloudy !!!!
Then we drive over to see the small ski area first at La Bourboule where
the fireman of the area were out in force. Then to Du Saney via Le Mont
Dore where we walked on the snowless pistes !!! We head off toward Besse by
the Col St. Robert and stop for the night half way with fantastic views
down to Lac Chambon :)
